Does it Feel Like Your Feelings are the Enemy?

All our life we have been running away from our feelings and now here I am asking you to run toward them. Here’s a newsflash, feelings are neither good nor bad; they are just messengers relaying to you that something inside you needs some attention. Well, there’s attention and then there’s ATTENTION! We, with post childhood trauma symptoms in adulthood, would be in the latter category. We are going to work with what we have and where we are right now.

Skydivers w textIt seems to be human nature to only refer to the Feelings List when experiencing negative emotions. It is equally important to use it to explore our positive emotions. More intimately and accurately sharing the wondrous feelings we experience with loved ones deepens our relationships in uplifting ways and strengthens our positive support system. If we are going to live in Technicolor, we must explore the full spectrum of possible emotions. Happy is good, but wouldn’t you like to take outrageous joy for a ride? Romantic love is divine; but even more astonishing with- passion, ecstasy, elation, thrill and fervor added to the mix.  Get out your brightest crayons-this is only the beginning!

When you identify an emotion, take the time to sit with it for a while. Acknowledge it, honor it, thank it for letting you know something is going on inside you that requires your attention. Then quit fixating on that feeling and move on to what needs to be addressed. If it’s a pleasant feeling, take note of its origin and make sure you allow time for more of what ever created it. If you put this Feelings List on your phone you will be prepared at all times to listen to your True Self for guidance, wisdom and comfort. It’s all there. You are breaking new ground. Be kind to yourself as you explore and discover the wondrous soul that you are.
